Recycling and waste solutions provider Powerday has successful attained certification for three important business standards: ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007. The standards were awarded by Certification International, and recognise the London-based company’s commitment to ensuring quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems are in operation.
Jim Craig, commercial director at Powerday, comments; “Having systems in place which monitor quality, the environment and health and safety are crucial to Powerday’s operations. In particular we have a strong belief in our responsibility to the environment. Our main site can process up to 1.6 million tonnes of waste every year, and we take every measure we can to ensure our services are environmentally friendly. For example, we ensure traceability – virtually all materials remain in the UK – and we use environmentally friendly transport links, such as the Grand Union Canal, to carry waste delivered to our site. Health and safety is also important. Due to the range of heavy equipment our staff operate it is vitally important to have procedures in place to make sure they remain safe at all times.
“As part of our commitment to health and safety we appointed a full time health and safety manager to ensure we have a culture of safety embedded into the business. All these measures allow us to provide a quality service to our clients. Certification International made the path to certification easier and they were on hand to help us understand what was needed throughout the assessment process.
